RSE: Journey In Love
A Journey in Love is the recommended programme for Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) in Catholic schools. It is designed as a progressive scheme of work that supports the Religious Education, PSHE and Science curriculum, helping children develop a clear and confident understanding of themselves and the world around them as they grow.
At St Austin’s, this programme is delivered alongside our PSHE curriculum. We ensure all statutory requirements are met while placing the spiritual, emotional, moral and social development of each child at the centre of our teaching.
The content within A Journey in Love is carefully planned to be age-appropriate and is taught with sensitivity, recognising the varying stages of children’s development. As children are naturally inquisitive, they are encouraged to ask questions, and time is provided for discussion in a safe and respectful environment. The programme also values the role of parents and carers, encouraging children to continue conversations and learning at home.
Grounded in the Catholic belief in the dignity of the human person, A Journey in Love teaches that every individual is made in the image and likeness of God. Our approach to RSHE reflects the teachings of the Catholic Church on love, respect and human dignity, presenting these values positively within a Christian framework. Through this programme, and in partnership with families, we aim to support the spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional and moral development of every child.
At St Austin’s, we believe that A Journey in Love supports the growth of the whole child, helping them to develop in virtue, understanding and wisdom as they learn about relationships, identity and God’s love within a Christian vision of life.
