Summer Term

Welcome back to another busy term We hope you had a good Easter break and are ready for an action packed term. The year is flying by and it is lovely to watch the children becoming more independent as they settle into the changes that are expected as they move from Key Stage 1 to 2.

In Literacy the children have all been made aware of their new targets and what they need to achieve if they are to build on the progress they have already made in this year. Targets this term are related to using more advanced punctuation and using connectives to write longer and more complex sentences. Please ask them to tell you what they will be trying to do.
We have already started looking at Authors ( especially Dick King Smith and Francesca Simon) and will be writing some letters and reviewing favourite books. We've got some super stories to write , play scripts to explore and poems to perform.

In Numeracy we will continue to encourage the children to become more familiar with Multiplication tables to 6 and some children will move onto 7,8 and 9 times tables. The children's targets are all about becoming more confident with multiplication and division. We are practising lots of strategies for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and will also learn more about fractions, reading scales, co-ordinates and telling the time! My Maths tasks will continue to be added weekly to the website for homework and hopefully the problems we encountered last term have now been eliminated.

Science topics for the Summer are Light and Shadows and Helping plants grow well. Hopefully we will have lots of sunny days so we can carry out some investigations outside.

Our R.E. topics are Energy, Choices and Special Places. We will also be finding out about Hinduism in other Faiths Week in May.

We have already started to prepare for our visit to Chester to begin learning about the Romans and will find out about Explorers and Adventurers during the second half term in IPC. Our Art and D.T activities will also be centered around these topics so we are certainly going to have no time to spare.

In the next few weeks,  Year 3 children will be going to the baths for swimming lessons and dates and information will be sent out shortly. Mr. Evans has planned some energetic P.E. lessons and the children will have the opportunity to develop some of their athletic skills!

In Music Miss McVeigh is going to help with our preparations for the Hispanic week performance, as well as teaching some more super songs.

Thank you all for your support and enthusiasm this year. Please continue to encourage your children to read, learn their spellings and complete homework. It's hard to think that in a few weeks we will be planning the Transition Assembly for the children in Year 2!
We hope the children will have a great, but maybe exhausting, final term in Year 3!
