Another busy week in the life of St. Austin’s. It’s nearly half term and we will be half way through Year 3-where has that time gone? In Art the children have been studying patterns and they will be producing their own patterns next week. Please ensure that all the children have a painting overall in school to protect their uniforms. Part of our R.E topic is Journeys and Philip Devine came into school to talk about why he makes the journey to Lourdes every year to help with the sick pilgrims. The children enjoyed asking him questions and watching his powerpoint. The children were given a homework task about the Holy Rosary could you please ensure that your child brings this work back to school on Friday. During this year we have been learning the times tables and by now all the children should be able to recite the 2’s to 5 times tables and also know these facts out of order. It does help to continually practise this and so it might be a good half term task. They should also know all their number bonds to 10 and 20. Again short games will help to re-inforce these facts. The children should be encouraged to read every single night and they should be reading at least once a week to an adult. Again, if anybody is bored during the half term break this might be a good activity.
Friday is El Dia de la Paz – Peace Day. This is a big event in Spain. Our children will be celebrating this day with a sporting theme which will help to show them how football and sports promote peace and unity. The children have been asked to bring in a voluntary contribution of £1 and all monies raised will be donated to CAFOD which helps in overseas projects.
