This week we started our new Celebrations topic and to kick it off, we learned about the Hindu celebration of Diwali which is sometimes called the festival of light. Diwali is a very special time for Hindu people and you can read the story of the first Diwali below.
Once we read through this story, we learned about a Diwali decorative custom called Rangoli, which involves making brightly coloured patterns out of coloured rice or sand. In class, we made our own rangoli patterns using tissue paper. The patterns all looked beautiful as you can see below. Once we had finished, we got onto the tasty part - we learned that just like we do for Christmas, Hindu people eat special foods during Diwali celebrations and we tried a range of sweets such as; jalebi, laddu, gulab jamun and milk sweets. Which was your favourite?
