Our topic at the moment is Day and Night and recently, we've been talking about light and dark. Today, we were thinking about plants and how they grow. We knew for sure that plants need water to help them grow, but we were undecided as to whether they needed light as well. After some further discussion, Aran came up with a brilliant way that we could test this. He said that we could grow one plant in the light and one plant in the dark and then compare them both. We then predicted what would happen next. Everyone agreed that the plant which was given light would grow and we thought that the plant in the dark would either die (as Kaly predicted) or grow very slowly and not very much (predicted by Ethan). In the end, we all agreed on the following predictions;
We think that the plant in the light will grow well.
We think that the plant in the dark will only grow a little bit.
Once we had made our predictions, it was time for the fun (messy) bit! We used the cut up legs from some tights, sprinkled some grass seeds in and then filled them with sand. Tying a knot in the end, we then decorated them with funny faces. Now they look a bit like little heads and we're hoping that the grass will grow out of the top and look like hair!
The grass heads that we are keeping in the light are on our windowsill - have a peek now and then and see when they start to grow!
